WELCOME PARTY

Some of my favorite memories from our wedding weekend were from the welcome party we hosted for our guests on the beach!

The party was supposed to be everyone enjoying the water, pool, jet skis, and all of the other beach activities set up at the event. Weather had been acting up and the tide started moving closer to the beach. Unfortunately, a few of the activities I was most excited about & the decor had to be rearranged/rescheduled to comply with weather conditions.

Initially, I was a little bummed. However.. the party went in a completely different direction from what Usman and I had expected and I’ll get in to that a little later in the post.

SET UP

Decor makes me happy. I’ve always been known to love throwing events amongst my family and friends. My favorite part about these events is always the set up! I’m
”extra” in every way and this is the part that just excites me the most. I literally made a wedding design board that I customized for each wedding event on Canva for my wedding planner/decorators to do their best to follow and understand what I wanted.

So for the welcome party, I wanted a bohemian set up and here’s how it turned out!

ENTERTAINMENT

We wanted this to be a casual event. All of our guests had flown in to Sarasota, Florida and we really wanted them to enjoy the beach! Here’s a list of some of the things we had going on:

  • Live music: an extremely talented acoustic singer & DJ Yogi

  • Sand Volleyball

  • Games (Jenga, Cornhole, etc)

  • Football

  • Jet skis that were rescheduled for the pool party the next morning

So back to how the event took a turn in a completely different direction..

The hotel’s beach club does not allow loud music at the property due to other guests/residents that may be enjoying the beach club. Therefore, when we initially booked the event, we were told we could only have background music at a limited volume. During the first half of the party, the DJ & singer both did as they were told in maintaining the volume at a minimum.

DJ Yogi was doing his thing and we were enjoying the music. A few of us started dancing, a few more joined, a few more after that, and then it turned into a full blown dance party on the beach. The DJ ended up turning the music up, basically blasting it at this point. There was a bride/s side vs groom’s side dance off. My favorite fun fact is that the beach club’s director that was supposed to be monitoring the volume ended up “occupying” himself with other tasks because he didn’t want to be the one to shut down the energy at the party. Especially since the other guests at the beach club that were not a part of the wedding were enjoying themselves just as much!

The weather conditions leading up to the event, some of the activities being rescheduled, and how the event ended up turning out is something I’ll never forget and cherish the most! Everything happens for a reason and it’s always important to enjoy yourself no matter what <3
